Information About Goshen
It is a small town in Northern Indiana that was ranked as one of
the most desirable places to live in the United States by Reader's Digest
in May of 1997. Goshen, known as Maple City, is the Elkhart County seat. It
is an attractive, pleasant town with a population of about 26,000.
Goshen College, a four-year, liberal arts college, is owned by and operated
as a ministry of the Mennonite Church. With an enrollment of about 1,025 students,
Goshen requires its students to spend fourteen weeks a developing nation through
its Student Service Term (SST). The college motto is "Culture for Service."
Goshen is located
in the midst of Northern Indiana Amish Country, the second largest Amish settlement
in the United States. Perhaps more that any other sect in the Americas, the
Amish draw the curious to this area because they lead their separatist life
amidst the contemporary society.
Agriculture thrives
in the countryside surrounding Goshen; however, agricultural workers help
meet manufacturing needs. Elkhart County manufacturing industries are diverse,
but the county is especially known for its RV manufacturing industries. |
